Jordy Wins Two For Two.

Jordy Smith won the Billabong Pro J-Bay on Sunday to secure his second historic victory in as many weeks as O’Neill team riders continued to light up the South African leg of the 2010 ASP World Tour.

A very stoked Jordy

The 22 year-old surfing phenomenon from Durban lifted his first Dream Tour trophy at Jeffreys Bay and wrote a new chapter in the record books by becoming the first South African since the legendary Shaun Tomson to win a World Tour event and lead the World rankings.

Last Sunday Jordy clinched the Mr Price Pro title in Ballito, beating 21 year-old fellow O’Neill team rider Casey Grant from Scottburgh in the final, to join Tomson and Ricky Basnett as the only South African winners of the event that crowned its first champion in 1969!

Jordy Turning to Victory

“We’re couldn’t be happier for Jordy,” commented Paul Canning, Sales and Marketing manager for O’Neill South Africa. “First he takes out the Mr Price in his home town, then he scores his maiden World Tour win at J-Bay and now he’s leading both the World Title Race and One World rankings! We can’t wait to see him in action at the O’Neill Cold Water Classic in Cape Town next week.”

Billed as the ‘Wildest event in professional surfing’, the 4-Star ASP rated Cape Town contest is scheduled for Monday to Friday, 26 to 30 July, and is the third of five events in the O’Neill Cold Water Classic Series that includes stops in Tasmania, Scotland, Canada and Santa Cruz, California.

Awesome trophy

Stuart Kennedy (AUS) and Cape Town local Royden Bryson, winners of the Tasmanian and Scottish events respectively, currently share the lead in the 2010 O’Neill Cold Water Classic Series rankings. With US $50 000 at stake for the CWC Series winner, competition is expected to be fierce in the powerful waves and frigid waters of the Cape Peninsula.
